The Difference Between Speech, Language and Communication
Speech, Language & Communication
Speech, Language and Communication are closely linked, but they mean different things.
Speech: The actual physical act of talking. It involves voice pitch, volume, rhythm, and clear articulation of sounds.
Language: The mental rulebook and code behind words to create sentences. It includes vocabulary (eg finding the right word), grammar, and sentence structure in spoken, written, or signed forms.
Communication: is the overall interactive process of passing messages back and forth, whether through speech, writing, signs, or body language.
Social Communication: are the skills required to communicate effectively e.g. body proximity, what to say/sign, and how or when. This can include behavioural factors as well as what is said.
